Mobile phones connect to the Internet and recognize what network they are a part of via a micro-chipped device called a SIM card.
A Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card is a portable memory chip used mostly in cell phones that operate on the GSM network. SIM cards hold the personal information of the account holder, including their phone number, address book, text messages, and other data. When you wish to change the phone, you just remove the SIM card from one handset and insert it into another.
At some point, nearly everyone has accidentally deleted contact information, text messages, or other data stored on the SIM card that they would like to recover, and it can be done in a few simple steps.
As you probably already know, SIM cards contain data about your phone and service, but they also backup files from your phone, such as txt messages and contacts. But, if you need to switch your handset, make sure you save the data to your SIM card manually, as you will not be able to see them on the new handset if you forget to do this. Usual procedure is that you can do this by selecting the contact or text message and clicking “Options” then clicking “Send to SIM.”
SIM Recovery Programs
SIM recovery programs are used to recover files that may have been deleted by accident or by corruption within the SIM card. SIM card readers usually have embedded SIM card recovery programs. You need to put the SIM card inside the SIM card reader and then plug it into your computer. The program will display all deleted or corrupted files for restoration.
The only files that can be recovered are files that you can save to your SIM. Currently, the only files that can be recovered on a SIM card recovery stick are contacts and text messages. Even if you cannot pull these files up on the handset, you will be able to view them on your computer.
How To Use a Data Recovery Program?
Remove the SIM card from your phone and insert it into the SIM card recovery stick. Insert the recovery stick into the USB port on your computer. Go to the “Start” menu and click “My Computer”.” Open the SIM recovery stick from the drives list. The recovery program should open automatically. Follow the onscreen instructions to recover the files.
More detailed steps are below:
Shut down and remove the battery. Locate the SIM card and remove it. If you having trouble locating the SIM card, you can refer to the owner’s manual for specific removal instructions. It is usually under the battery.
Attach the SIM card to a computer via SIM card reader, which attaches to the computer via a USB cord. Slip the SIM card inside the receiving of the card reader. The computer can then read the SIM card as an external drive.
You can also download a SIM card recovery software program to the computer that the SIM card is attached to. Both freeware and for-purchase recovery software is available. These programs look for data that has been removed from the basic card directories, but which has not been fully removed from the card.
Not all data can be recovered from a SIM card after it is erased, but because SIM cards have multiple storage areas, it is often possible to recover part or all of the lost data. To prevent data loss, after the SIM card is restored back up all the SIM data to either the phone’s hard memory or the computer’s hard drive space.
