If you are looking for the perfect gift for grandparents or family members, or simply a unique souvenir, your children’s footprints imprinted your salty dough is the most beautiful thing you can gift that you can do yourself.

Materials needed:

  • A cup of salt
  • cup of flour
  • Half a cup of water

Mix all the ingredients well. You can also include in the project your little assistants that are perfect for the job. Decide for yourself whether you need to add more water, flour and salt, bearing in mind that the dough should have the consistency of a Play-Doh.

Once you have made perfect salty dough, on a wax paper form a shape you want to imprint your children’s feet in. It might be a heart shape, a flower, a butterfly, or whatever you want. Once you have done that, have your children imprint their feet or palm in that dough.

Above each foot write the name of the child with the help of a small knife or spoon tail, and somewhere in the middle and put the year as a reminder.

Bake the dough in the oven at 100 C for three hours. If you’re making a big heart instead of two or three small ones, you are more likely to need more time to bake them.  After three hours, check if dough is moist, and if so, turn it to the oven, and bake for another hour.

When the decoration is baked, remove it from the oven, allow cooling completely and moving on to painting. Let the kids choose the color they want and let them paint as they wish.

Then allow the paint to dry completely, and you have a unique gift and a memory.
