Facebook Messenger for Android now officially supports multiple accounts

A few days ago, the rumor mill pointed out that Facebook Messenger would soon support SMS and multiple accounts for Android. Half of that came true today.

Via an update, Facebook Messenger will now support multiple accounts, which the company is framing as a feature for families that use one device to access Messenger.

A new ‘Accounts’ setting will show up in the settings pane, where each user can log-in to their Messenger account. From there, they can choose to require a password each time they access their account, or leave it open for anyone to access.

If accounts are password protected, the number of new messages they have will show up in-app.

At least for now, this feature is Android-only. There’s no word on when (or if) this will hit iOS or the Web versions of Messenger.
