You are probably familiar with the newest Instagram trend – girls posting photos of themselves with and without makeup. It is surprising and a bit controversial, but it makes us realize the true power of makeup.
But believe it or not, makeup doesn’t always emphasize your natural beauty; sometimes it can highlight your imperfections and even make you look older.
These are five common makeup mistakes that you really shouldn’t do if you want to look youthful and avoid adding years to your face:
- Using the wrong lipstick
Lipstick is an important part of makeup, but what you should know is that not every lipstick looks good on everyone’s lips. Be careful and choose the lipstick tone according to the type of your lips. If your lips are naturally thin make sure you don’t use dark-toned lipstick; it visually shrinks your lips and makes you look way older than you are.
- Too much powder
Using pressed powder to correct tiny imperfections and cover the greasy T-zone is perfectly fine, but make sure you don’t overuse it. Thick layers of powder won’t let your skin breathe; you will look much older and completely unnatural. Always choose a light powder which will allow your face to keep some of its natural glow. What you should also avoid is powdering the area around your eyes otherwise you will make all those tiny wrinkles much deeper and more visible.
- Wrong use of dark eyeshadows
Most of us like brown and black eyeshadows and we have to admit that they can look beautiful on your eyes. But it is important to know how to use them correctly. If you apply them over the whole lid area, it will visually shrink your eyes and make you look much older. Dark eyeshadows should be applied only at the outer corners of your eyes; do not overuse them in order to preserve your youthful looks.
- Dark eyeliner for lower lid
Another thing which can visually shrink your eyes is applying dark eyeliner to your lower lid. Small eyes unmistakably remind us of older ladies and you definitely don’t want to look old in your 20s or 30s. To avoid this, make sure you use white eyeliner for your lower lid because that will open up your eyes and make them look younger and more gorgeous.
- Not using foundation
“No foundation is better than bad foundation, but good foundation is best,” claims makeup artist Melissa Silver and we completely agree with her! All women should embrace their natural beauty but it doesn’t mean they should completely give up makeup. Everyone’s skin has its imperfections; it can be dull, dry, oily, ruddy etc. A little bit of foundation won’t do your skin any harm; quite the opposite – it will make your skin smooth and it will even out your complexion.
