How to make a simple marshmallow fondant (video)

Fondant is definitely the latest hit when it comes to decorating cakes. Fondant definitely looks adorable and is perfect for decorating cakes or cupcakes for just about any occasion. If you would like to make your own simple fondant mass and give it a shot to your decorating skills, here is a simple how to tutorial on how you can make the best marshmallow fondant.

The materials you need:

  • white marshmallow
  • icing sugar
  • a few tablespoons of water
  • Crisco

Preparation:

Step 1: Put the marshmallows in a large bowl, add the water and optionally vanilla extract and heat in the microwave. Stop and stir every 30 seconds. It usually takes about 2, 5 minutes.

Step 2: Remove and stir in 3/4 sugar. Mix first using wooden spoon because the mass is very hot.

Step 3: When the mixture is cool enough to work with by hands, smear the desktop (ideal if you have a marble surface, otherwise search for any smooth work surface) with Crisco and on which you put the rest of the powdered sugar, and firmly knead for about 8 minutes, to get a firm and elastic dough. In order to avoid sticking the mass onto your palms, cover the hands with Crisco but do not overdo it would not change the strength and composition of the mixture.

Step 4: Form a ball from the paste and cover it with the Crisco, so it does not dry on the air. Wrap it well with plastic wrap, and place in a freezer bag, squeeze out as much air and tighten it.

Step 5: When the fondant is completely cooled, place in the refrigerator.

Step 6: It is better to allow the mixture to rest for at least 24 hours so that the mixture becomes smooth.

Step 7: you can keep the mass in the refrigerator for few weeks, or you can freeze it for up to 6 months.
