With a little colors, creativity and time you can reuse the old clothing that you may find boring and outdated. Using fabric colors you can continuity and quality refresh your old clothes. When the fabric colors are applied, drying makes that fabric somewhat more hardened.
You can mix colors and create desired shades, but do not dilute the colors too much or not at all, in order to avoid eventual weakening of the pigmentation.
Materials needed:
- Piece of fabric you want to “make-over”
- Fabric dyes
- Pen or markers for the fabric (for drawing borders and details)
- The carbon paper
- Painting brushes
- Paper for the background
- Template that you want to paint on the fabric
- Sharpened wooden pen
Step 1 (preparing the fabric):
As a first step we do advise you to always pre-wash fabric in order to ensure the better absorption of the color. Rinse thoroughly and hang to dry
Step 2:
When the fabric is dry, iron it in order to remove eventual creases which could eventually bother you while making your own art.
Step 3 (template drawing):
Place a piece of carbon paper facing the carbonated part downwards the fabric and place the template over the carbon paper and fix it. Hover the sharpened wooden pencil over the outline of the template and remove carbon paper.
Step 4 (painting the application):
If you are painting of a double layer of fabric (T-shirt, bag …) put a piece of paper between the layers in order to prevent the color switch to the other side.
Step 5:
Apply the color with uniform strokes in one direction. Some colors, especially the brighter ones, may require more than one layer of application. Allow the first coat dry before applying the next one.
Step 6:
When the main motive is completed and once the color is completely dry, use a thin brush to add details or pen for fabric in order to draw the outlines on the pattern.
Step 7 (color fixing):
Allow the paint to dry for at least 24 hours. Lay the fabric so that the drawn pattern is facing down and iron the background of pattern with a high temperature in order to fix the color.
After that you can wash that fabric and enjoy wearing you creativity.
